Valiant

The tree woman choked on the poison, the slow sap of her blood burning.
Valiant written by Holly Black is a wonderfully dark take on Beauty And The Beast that will leave you totally flabbergasted. Valiant was beautifully written and had an awesome story line. It was funny, heart melting and will have you on the edge of your seat. It was an all round great novel and I can't wait to read more from Holly Black in the near future.® Valerie has been betrayed by the person she loved most so she ran away. She now seeks refuge with a bunch of teenage street rats that live in the train tunnels of New York but when she stumbles over a new world the faerie world she meets a troll that goes by the name of Ravus that she soon finds herself having feelings for. There is a new drug her friend Lolli is taking that she calls never which is actually a medicine for faeries will Valerie get hooked.? And does Ravus feel the same way.?
Gone in one faerie sigh.
Summary from book jacket:
Escaping from a life that has utterly betrayed her, seventeen-year-old Valerie Russell flees to New York City where she takes up with a feral trio who have made their home in the labyrinthine subway system. Impulsive Lolli talks of monsters in the tunnels and of a shimmery amber - colored powder that makes shadows dance around her. Severe Luis claims he can make deals with creatures no one else can see. And then there's Dave, Luis's brother, who makes the mistake of letting Val tag along...
Dragged deeper onto their damaged world, a bewildered Val finds herself bound into service to a troll named Ravus. He is as hideous as he is honorable, but beneath his embittered exterior Val discovers Ravus hides a lonely, vulnerable heart. Val soon finds herself torn between a growing affection for him - and fear of what she and her new friends are becoming because of him.
There will be an issue mentioned in the
video review about the book that should be
heard if you are younger than 13.
